What Does This Mean?

In the first few weeks of the pandemic, back in March, a good friend of mine said, “I just don’t want to miss what God is doing.”

Throughout the last 9 months, I can’t say I’ve always been paying attention to what God is doing.

Too often, I’ve been:
* discouraged
* focused on what’s wrong
* worried about the future
* counting down the days until there is some semblance of normal

However, there’ve been other times I’ve been:
* dialed in with how my kids are feeling
* in prayer listening to what God is saying
* focused on how I can find peace internally
* asking how I can grow no matter the situation

One day, I’ll tell my kids and my kids’ kids about 2020 and the global pandemic. One day, I’ll have a story to tell. And here’s what I’d love to say.

In Exodus 13:14, “In days to come, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ say to him, ‘With a mighty hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.”

The Israelites had quite the story to tell. After 430 years of slavery, they probably never thought they’d experience freedom again. But God brought them out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

One day, this will be over. The question is, what story will we have to tell? When our kids ask us, what does this all mean? What will I have to say?

When it’s all done, I’d love to say, with a mighty hand the Lord brought us out of the global pandemic, and we’re stronger in faith in than ever before.

Ultimately, I just don’t want to miss what God is doing in the midst of all of this.
